Wilkinson Sword 707110103/27/2021
Is this a serial number and if so where can I find information to verify its authenticity There is allot of etched impressions on the blade such as EIIR with a crown above, Anchor with crown above, six point star and also the name Wilkinson Sword Made in England. Is there any way of telling if this sword was actually made by Wilkinson or possibly a cheap knockoff if there is such a thing. The blade is 31in.
Wilkinson Sword 70711010 Serial Number And IfWhat type of material is the handle (grip) made of on these swords It almost feels plasticy since I cant think of a better word to describe. Also regarding the serial number what was used as a reference to pinpoint the date of manufacture Being new to sword collecting I am very inquisitive. The number is individual to each Wilkinson blade and is entries in the proof Book showing the date the blade was tested and proved, when the sword was put together and who is was sold to. Wilkinsons numbering started at 5001 on 1st January 1854 and went up to 132384 in September 2005 when they ceased to make swords. Wilkinsonsons started making swords in 1844 but those swords made between then and 31st December 1853 have no numbers. So as i said, if you email Richard Milner who scanned all the records before they went to the Royal Armouries Library with the number, he will be able to give you (for a small fee) a copy of the entry showing date, sword type and who it was made for. The information you have given has been very useful and educational.
